Our Catholic school community recognises the God-given dignity of each of its members and strives to organise its curriculum so that we acknowledge, with respect, individual differences. We are striving to continually provide quality teaching-learning experiences to best facilitate this.
We have a mixture of staged class groupings. In 2005 we will have our Early Stage 1, Stage 1 & Stage 2 children grouped in their appropriate stages and Stage 3 will be grouped as separate Year 5 & Year 6. When planning, programming and assessing, taking into account individual needs, we teach in whole class, small group and individual situations, as appropriate.
The teachers are highly motivated, well organised and work collaboratively in team situations to carry through our philosophy of providing quality teaching-learning experiences based on the needs of individual students. At St John Fisher Catholic School, we believe that:
- Learning is a life-long continuous process,
- Learning is learner-centred
- Individual needs and learning styles should be recognised
- Teaching and learning programs need to be meaningful and relevant
- Parents are critical as partners in the educational process
The school has a Pastoral Care Policy that includes the Peer Support Program and Seasons For Growth as well as Social Skills and a Positive Discipline Program.
A wide variety of music is provided within the school with children having the opportunity to learn keyboard, violin, guitar or wind instruments as well as join the School Band. In the dramatic arts, the children participate in the Waikikirri Program and each alternative year invites the school community to a celebration of Creative Arts.
We participate in sport's carnivals locally, regionally and at diocesan level.
